Welcome to ESL-SPIN, the home of the ESL Small Publishers Independent Network. We are all English language teachers, writers and now micro-publishers, living and working in Australia, who have joined together to support each other.
Teachers, tutors, and librarians – if you’re looking for Australian resources for your migrant English classroom or library (or you’d like to learn more about our publishing journeys), then please explore our site, which we’re busy updating. If you’re wondering ‘Where are the commercial resources?’ then read our ‘Why indie?’ article explaining why they hardly exist…
Currently our official ‘members’ are;
Clare Harris: The Book Next Door
Carmel Davies, Sharon Duff: Urban Lyrebirds
Lauren Piovesan: ESLReads
Other Australian indie teacher-publishers are Karen Slikas Barber from Read Me Again Press; Helga Burry (Let’s Connect Australian Grammar Workbooks), Po Lin Woo (English for Beginners), Assunta Crupi-Pogliano from 123-abc.org and Bernard Miles from English Express.
Shout-out to the wonderful authors at small institutional publishers, like Milpera Publishing and PRACE PageTurners, as well as Carringbush Adult Education (Carringbush Reading Series) and ‘project’ authors like the ones from Djerriwarrh.
We also want to celebrate the life and work of the late Maggie Power (from Urban Lyrebirds) and Susan Boyer of Boyer Educational Resources, who were part of our group. They will be sadly missed, but their books are all still available.
Hazel Davidson and Dorothy Court from Sugarbag on Damper have now retired. You may still find copies of their books in language bookstores, but their website is no longer operating.
