Welcome to ESL-SPIN, the home of the ESL Small Publishers Independent Network, creating ESL/EAL resources in Australia.
We are all English language teachers, writers and now small publishers, living and working in Australia, who have joined together to support each other and to promote Australian learning resources.
Teachers, tutors, and librarians – if you’re looking for Australian resources for your migrant English classroom or library, then please explore our site, which we’re busy updating. If you’re wondering why we don’t write for big publishers, then read our ‘Why indie?’ article, explaining why this is too small a niche for the big publishers to be interested…but why we believe it’s hugely important!
Currently our official ‘members’ are;
Carmel Davies, Sharon Duff: Urban Lyrebirds
Clare Harris: The Book Next Door
Lauren Piovesan: ESLReads
Chris Malakar: PRACE Pageturners
Other Australian teacher-publishers are Karen Slikas Barber from Read Me Again Press; Helga Burry (Let’s Connect Australian Grammar Workbooks), Po Lin Woo (English for Beginners), Assunta Crupi-Pogliano from 123-abc.org and Bernard Miles from English Express.
Shout-out to the wonderful authors at small institutional publishers, like PRACE, Milpera Publishing and Carringbush Adult Education (Carringbush Reading Series) and ‘project’ authors like the ones from Djerriwarrh.
We also want to celebrate the life and work of the late Maggie Power (from Urban Lyrebirds) and Susan Boyer of Boyer Educational Resources, who were part of our group. They will be sadly missed, but their books are all still available.
Hazel Davidson and Dorothy Court from Sugarbag on Damper have now retired. You may still find copies of their books in language bookstores, but their website is no longer operating.
