Free reading books

Many of our resources have free ‘try it out’ pages, but if you’re looking for some completely free Australian resources, we suggest:

Carringbush Reading Series

Carringbush Reading Series from Carringbush Adult Education. Beginner level on relevant themes for new migrant learners.

My Job is the Best

My Job is the Best (by Clare Harris, from The Book Next Door) – like the ESL Extras, with worksheets and teacher notes. Easy beginner or even pre-beginner level.

Carly and Kumar

Carly and Kumar level 1 is currently available free from author Karen Silkas Barber at Read Me Again Press – contact her via the website for details. This book of entertaining short stories is for more capable beginners.

There are also downloadable or online reading books from other funded projects, that cover really important topics:

Kim Loves Life (Breast Cancer story) from Djerriwarrh (Natalie Nawrocki)

Welcome to the Library from Djerriwarrh and City of Melton Library

Living Well with Hepatitis B (4 short stories) by Ellen Claire and Hepatitis Queensland

Please let us know if we have missed out any Indie books here! You can contact Clare: info AT thebooknextdoor.com
